Digital Radiology
Northwest Animal Hospital now offers state-of-the-art digital radiology. Digital radiology reduces the need for sedation, improves diagnostics, provides a better opportunity for early detection and reduces stress on the pet during the radiology screening. When necessary, films can be reviewed by a board-certified radiologist within a few hours. You will also receive a CD copy of your pet's film(s).
Penn-Hip Evaluations
The PennHIP (Pennsylvania University Hip Improvement Program) method is a different way to assess, measure and interpret hip joint status. It consists of three separate radiographs: the distraction view, the compression view and the hip-extended view. The distraction view and compression view are used to obtain accurate and precise measurements of hip joint laxity and congruity, respectively. The hip-extended view is used to obtain supplementary information regarding the existence of degenerative joint disease in the hip joint. By using the PennHIP method, our veterinarians can better diagnose hip dysplasia in your dog.
Endoscopy
An endoscope allows our veterinarians to look inside your pet using a series of small cameras attached to a flexible tube. This lets the doctor look inside a body cavity or organ and diagnose a problem without invasive surgery. An endoscope allows biopsies, cultures and removal of foreign objects from the lungs, stomach or intestines. Endoscopies are less stressful than standard surgery and allow for a quicker recovery time for your pet.
In-house Laboratory
Our laboratory can perform a variety of diagnostic procedures for your pet, including blood counts, serum chemistries, electrolytes, cross-matching and parasite identification. These procedures allow us to help diagnose disease and acute symptoms easily, without causing stress or discomfort to your pet.
